Grocery sales fell by 0,5% for the first time since 2016. The figure decline was fixed in the latest 12 week period and became the biggest in sector. Kantar, a market researcher said that the decline was caused by the heatwave during this period last year. The researcher also reported that sales reduced year-on-year at all of British large supermarket groups. The market leader Tesco decreased its sales by 2%, Sainsbury’s, Asda and Morrisons went respectively down by 2,3%, 2,0% and 2,6%. On the other hand, all the market leaders gave their share away to German discounters. The sales of Aldi increased to 6,7% and the Lidl’s raised to 7%.
