The China Academy of Information and Communications Technology under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology reported a decline in mobile phone shipments in the country for the fifth month in a row. According to the ministry, in March, 28 million 370 thousand mobile phones were sold, which is 6% less than in March last year. 95.1% of all shipments were phones that support the 4G communication standard. The number of smartphones sold in the past month amounted to 26 million 940 thousand units, ranking 94.9% of the total sales of mobile phones. Their figure declined in annual terms by 4.1%. Chinese brands accounted for 90.5% of all sales. The number of new models that went on sale in March of this year was 35% less than a year earlier and amounted to 52 units. In the first quarter, sales of mobile phones decreased in annual terms by 11.9%, reaching 76 million 931 thousand units.
