On February 13, a ceremony of launching a large-scale lithium-ion battery-based energy storage system was held in the Indian city of Roaymee, Delhi. Its owners and operators are its developers at AES Corporation and Mitsubishi Corporation. For the Indian energy sector, this project is strategically important because during peak nighttime electricity consumption in the country there may be a shortage of energy, since solar energy production stops as the sun goes down. The commissioning of battery storage can completely eliminate the need for thermal power plants.
