In the first financial quarter, which ended in June, India increased steel output by 6.2% year-on-year to 26 million 80 thousand tons. According to the preliminary data of the ministry, the steelmaking of hot-rolled steel increased by 11% in the quarter to 17.88 million tonnes. The output of cast iron reached 2 million 580 thousand tons, increased by 5%. The volume of smelting of the six largest Indian producers in aggregate exceeded the indicator of the first fiscal quarter of last year by 12% and amounted to 15 million 600 thousand tons. India plans to increase steel production to 300 million tons by 2030. It ranks second in the world in terms of steel production, according to the World Steel Association.
