According to a preliminary estimate of Eurostat, the annual consumer price growth in the eurozone accelerated in April to 1.7% from 1.4% in March. At the same time, economists predicted annual inflation at 1.6% last month. The inflation rate, which does not take into account the cost of energy carriers, food and alcoholic beverages, also accelerated the rise to 1.2% from 0.8% a month earlier, reaching the maximum value since October last year. Analysts had expected a figure of 1.1%. The European Statistical Office believes that the April inflation increase may be temporary, since this year Easter was celebrated in the eurozone countries in April, and last year it was in March. The prices of food, alcoholic and tobacco products increased by 1.5% in annual terms last month. Services went up by 1.9%, energy carriers - by 5.4%.
