Business activity in the UK services sector accelerated its growth in August

The supply managers' index in the services sector of the UK in August rose to 54.3 points from 53.5 points in the previous month, the results of the IHS Markit survey showed. The sector expanded at a faster pace against the backdrop of new orders that are much stronger now. The indicator in August reached its second highest level since February. Experts had expected the index to rise to 53.9 points. At the same time, the optimism in the services sector relative to the business prospects for the next 12 months dropped to a five-month low. Director of the CIPS Group, Duncan Brock, said: “Thus, despite the fact that the sector has remained in a positive territory, dark clouds of political indecision are still affecting and impeding greater business activity.”
